How to Deactivate Receiving Emails from the New “Share” Feature on StumbleUpon
This morning I woke up, opened my email account and saw that I had received about 30 new emails from StumbleUpon. All those emails were from SU friends who wanted to share web pages with me. Those 30 emails were sent only during the 8 hours time that I was sleeping. Throughout the day I would receive even more! This can be enough to drive some people mad!
But do I like the new Share with friends feature? Of course I do! I use it myself two or three times a week and it saves me a lot of time! But I do feel bad that my friends receive emails every time I use that trait, and I would like to deactivate my own account from receiving emails as well. Since I regularly stumble through new pages with my StumbleUpon toolbar, I don’t really need to receive a notification email each time a friend wants to share a page with me.
But I don’t know how to execute the email deactivation! Can anyone help me please? If you can, please write it in the comment area, and I will regularly update this post in order to make it helpful for others as well. I do like my SU friends to share web pages with me. I just don’t want the emails.
Thanks a lot!
Updated Answer
Here’s what Nicola suggested:
- On your SU main page, or favourite page, click on “Preferences”;
- Scroll down to “Communication & Privacy” and uncheck the box called “Email me my messages”;
- Don’t forget to click on “Save preferences” at the bottom.
I have tried that yesterday and so far no emails for 24 hours! So I am just enjoying stumbling through my friends’ pages that were shared with me!
Another Way
Valerionson has suggested another way of deactivating the notification emails. When you do receive such an email, scroll to the bottom of the page where you have an option to stop all notification emails. I haven’t really tried that myself, but it should work.

Go to Your Home, then the last choice on the bar – Preferences
Near the bottom under Communication & Privacy uncheck the box marked Email me my messages
This will stop all inbox messages too – but if you are using the toolbar you will still see the inbox flag.
Hope that is what you wanted.
As Nichola said you adjust the settings in your preference settings pane. Regretfully there is no separate tab for just the share emails but you can turn off everything & you wont be stumblespammedanymore.

Thank you Nicola and Mich D. I will try your trick and see if it works.
I’ve been beginning to wonder about this myself. I too enjoy getting stumbles but I do think the “Mass Sharing” feature is being used too much. I think the best policy is to limit mass sharing to once every few days while paying close attention to those who haven’t been online in more than a few days. It’s about respect if you ask me.
This will help a lot when I start gradually gaining more friends on SU and start getting spam-emails, haha.
Thank you!
Okay, on the email that gets sent to you, there is a link at the bottom of the page to stop all the notification emails. I hope this helps.
I hear you loud and clear, when you receive an email from a SU friend, it is because you are a SU user, at the end of the email, there should be a section for you to opt out of receiving emails, also, your SU pages are the same ones from your emails that you have already seen, just delete them all, that’s what I do, hope I have been of some help to you!
Go to Preferences and uncheck the box saying —> notify me by email.
@Anton I’m glad we could help m8.
Peace
Mich D.
I couldn’t agree more with you. I did deactivate e-mails alerts a long time ago. I also limit myself to one e-mail share per day, only the best of the best. If someone sends me sub-par posts, spam or simply too many a day, I remove them as friends.
Thanks for writing this post, a lot of people will need it!
This is useful to know. I haven’t had any problems so far, and I do like the new feature, as long as it’s not abused. Like anything that has a benefit, it also has a downside too.
